The following other problems are pictures of actual cases taken at the Academy of Equine Dentistry during wet lab sessions. The following problems inhibit lateral excursion and anterior posterior (rostral/caudal) movement of the mandible, creating mastication and performance difficulties.

Retained incisor caps cause pain to soft tissue and displacement of permanent incisors.

Wolf teeth often cause performance problems when they come into contact with the bit. They may be un-erupted and not obvious to the uninformed practitioner.

Sharp, excessively long canine teeth in male horses may interfere with tongue movement and performance.

Often tooth decay and periodontal disease may not be obvious and needs to be addressed by a competent equine oral health care provider.

Other abnormalities such as supernumerary and displaced teeth can create blockages inhibiting form, function and performance.

Often the head and anterior areas of the mouth sustain serious injuries creating extreme situations that require extreme varieties of treatment and prophylaxis.

Asymmetry of the head often mandates irregular eruption of the dentition. These cases require maintenance on a regular basis.
