We proudly present Practical Grades 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 Equine Dental courses and
and an A-150 Equine Oral Anatomy course.
Course participants include students from all over the United States and 40
or more foreign countries. Upon review of application, acceptance and payment of deposit, new participants
will need to purchase the required course literature and pay a lab and instrument use fee. Tuition and
other costs are subject to change from time to time. Be sure to verify you have the current rates to
avoid problems upon arrival.
PG-1 FIRST WEEK D-100 LEVEL COURSE
The five-day D-101, first level course covers the history of equine dentistry, its definition,
evolution and need. The D-101 level course introduces the serious participant to basic function of teeth
and their relationship to the equine body, various numbering systems for teeth, correct basic aging,
anatomy of the horse's head and mouth and differences in types of heads, which may affect tooth eruption.
During D-101 level courses, you will learn correct dental examination procedures and routine maintenance
applications. Proper uses of basic instruments are discussed and routine dental maintenance procedures
are attempted on skulls and live horses. D-101 level courses include a discussion on the business aspects
of equine dental maintenance and equilibration, including an introduction to the school's continuing
education and certification policies. The D-101 level course also includes a record of attendance and course
completion, representing 50 credits of continuing education in the field of equine dental equilibration.
PG-1 SECOND WEEK D-200 LEVEL COURSE
The five-day D-201, first level course requires completion of D-101. The D-201 level course
introduces the dedicated participant to advanced function of teeth and their relationship to the body,
advanced aging techniques, advanced anatomy of the head and neck, type of body and condition, grading
systems governing dental conditions, bone conformation and processes governing air flow patterns,
mastication, mental and physical health, in-depth developmental changes, pathology and treatment of
advanced dental problems, care and maintenance of abnormal dentition and the use of advanced handling
methods and dental instruments. Skulls will be evaluated for correction and live horses will be corrected
and put on maintenance programs. The Academy of Equine Dentistry has a collection of over 300 skulls for
your study. The D-201 level course address's the business aspects of the industry including advanced study
materials and hands on experience involving advanced dental problems. The D-201 level course includes a
record of attendance and course completion, representing 50 credits of continuing education in the field
of equine dentistry.
Other courses required for First Level Certification are: PG-2 Level Course (two weeks - 100 hours), PG-3 Level
Course (two weeks - 100 hours) , and A-150 (three day - 24 hours), and an alternative D-104 & D-204 course
(100 hours) or 100 hours of field work under the supervision of a Certified Equine Dentist (CEqD). A total of 324
credits are required for first level certification.
POST PRACTICAL GRADE 3 CERTIFICATION D-300 LEVEL COURSES
Participation in the five-day D-301 through D-304 level courses requires first level certification
(completion of PG-1, PG-2, PG-3, and A-150, a minimum of 324 credits). The purpose of the program is
to allow the Practical Grade 3 "Certified Equine Dentist" to advance to the level of Practical Grade
4 "Advanced Certified Equine Dentist." A minimum of 524 credits of instruction is required to reach
this level (324 credits from first level certification courses and 200 credits from the D-300 level
dental courses).

ADVANCED EQUINE DENTAL COURSES
An Advanced Course is offered at the Academy of Equine Dentistry four times a year to provide continuing education for certified Dentists and
Veterinarians with advanced knowledge in Equine Dentistry. This course consists of 5 days of wet lab and lectures concerning the most recent
advancements in our field presented by a staff of master dentists and veterinarians. Included in our program are digital radiology, video endoscopy,
endodontics, nerve blocks, oral extractions, orthodontics, and advanced surgical procedures. The contents of our program vary with each class to
meet the changing needs of our dentists working in practice. Continuing education is an important part of the Academy and we encourage dental
practitioners to participate in this highly attended program.

Participants receive attendance certificates, but the credit/hours do not count toward advancement within our program.

EQUINE ANATOMY COURSE
A-150 Equine Oral Anatomy Course (Focusing on the head and neck) This class is offered four times
a year and is required for certification by non-veterinarian practitioners, worth 24 credits. This
course is designed to meet the practical and academic needs of the committed equine dental practitioner
and fulfills our physiology and anatomy requirement for equine dental certification at the Academy.
It is a 24-hour, three-day class, of which half the hours are lecture and half are dissection and
biomechanical observations.
