When are the dental classes offered?
The dental classes are offered four times a year during the months of February, May, August and November.

How long does each course last?
Each course runs for a two-week period. The first week of dental class is known as the D-100 and second week is the D-200 class. The classes are offered separately if an individual cannot make it to both weeks. However, we strongly recommend taking the course for the two-week period.

How long does it take to become certified?
A student must have completed at least two courses (PG-1 and PG-2) before attempting certification. However, students cannot attempt certification in three consecutive classes. For example, if a student took PG-1 in May, PG-2 in August, November or February, the student could attempt certification (PG-3) in May of that following year. If a student wishes to take PG-3 for continuing education vs. attempting to certify, they may do so anytime after PG-2.

How can I gain further experience in the field?
Many students will go with a certified dentist to further their practical skills. Students are required to spend ten days working with an experienced Academy Certified Equine Dentist or attend ten days of regular Academy sponsored D-100 or D-200 continuing education level courses before certification.

When do I need to take the Anatomy Class?
The three-day Head & Neck Equine Oral Anatomy, Physiology and Biophysics Course is offered before each dental course. This class must be taken before attempting certification. We encourage all first time students to attend the Anatomy class prior to the dental course for a better understanding of anatomy and biomechanics.
